Mechanical machining of erector segments for a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines)

Thursday, August 31, 2017

We have recently carried out the mechanical machining of 4 sectors of a erector for a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine).

The next step will be the assembly of the four machined erector sectors to create the rotating ring of the erector which will measure 9 meters in diameter.

The erector is for a tunnel boring machine for an excavation project in Japan. The TBM in question, with a 13.2 meter wide cutter head, will be used to bore a tunnel for the construction of lane 5 of the Hiroshima expressway (the Hiroshima Project).

Below are some photos during machining phases of the erector sectors.

Machining of cutterhead supports for TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines)

Friday, December 12, 2014

Galbiati recently carried out the machining of cutterhead supports for a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines).

The Cutterhead Support, designed by the Galbiati Group, is for a boring machine for an excavation project in Mexico City, Mexico. The TBM will have a boring head 8.7 metres in diameter and will be used on site to excavate a tunnel for sewerage.

Below are a few photos showing the preparation of the cutterhead supports.

Galbiati Group collaborates with leading tunnel boring machine manufacturers with regard to the supply and machining of components for TBMs (planetary gears, bearing supports, erectors etc.).

Below is an example of machining equipment for bearing supports (Cutterhead) for tunnel boring machines.

The Cutterhead support, represented below, was built by Galbiati Group, and was intended for a boring machine built for an excavation pilot project in Australia, Queensland.  The TBM in question, shall have an overall diameter of 8 meters, and will be commissioned for digging two tunnels providing access to a coal mine.

Here are some photos showing the work phases of the cutterhead supports.

The Tunnel boring machine, otherwise known as TBM, is a machine for completely automated excavation and lining of tunnels. These machines are used for the construction of railroad, highway, subway, hydroelectric, and forced conduit tunnel excavation.

Galbiati Group works with major tunnel boring machine manufacturers not only in terms of the machining, but also to manufacture the helical drives that control the rotating excavation head of the TBM.

Galbiati realized main bearings (cutterhead supports) for a tunnel boring machine.

Following some photos during cutterhead supports machining.
