Galbiati Group has been working for years with major leading manufacturers worldwide for steam and gas power plants, supplying compressor pump housings for gas pumping stations.

Galbiati has recently performed third party mechanical machining of a compressor pump housings composed of two half parts in stainless steel x5 17.4CnNi.

The compressor pump housing in question is in fact formed by a lower and an upper half.

Mechanical machining was performed separately on the two halves and certified through a final control with a three-dimensional Zeiss measuring machine.

The Andrea (TH 630) head, used during the mechanical machining process, is a C.N. head which can produce diameters up to 1.800 mm for mechanical machining of external and internal facets and undercuts, boring and cylindrical and conical threads.

Galbiati Group recently performed the machining of a horizontal multi-stage pump in carbon steel (A216 WCB), which is composed of a body that is divided axially. The pump body is in fact composed of a lower half-body and an upper one.

Both  half-bodies were machined separately and certificated through a final inspection performed with a Zeiss three-dimensional measuring machine.

The pump was designed according to API 10th edition for use in the petrochemical industry and in the plant, it will pump oil at a flow rate of 510 m 3/h with a prevalence of 689 m (this is equivalent to a capacity of 420 t / h with a differential pressure of 55.63 bar).

The pump housing is designed to withstand a pressure of 90 bar at 55 degrees centigrade and has been tested in water, with positive results, at a pressure of 135 bar.

Illustrated below is the machining stage for the upper body of the pump housing.

Galbiati Group works alongside leading manufacturers for the supply of components for pump stations for oil, gas, air and water industries.

As far as the production of pump housings is concerned, the Galbiati’s Mechanical Machining Division has recently completed the machining of a subsea pump housing for the oil industry, consisting of a motor casing and a pump casing.

The pump housing was manufactured from high alloy steel castings, previously rough machined and with standard allowance material.

Details of the motor casing machining are given below.

The pump housing was then fully machined on a 7-axis controlled boring machine with a 65t capacity rototranslating table and equipped with a controlled d’Andrea head to perform turning operations.

The d’Andrea head (U TRONIC) used during the machining of the pump housing is a NC head that can perform diameters of up to 1,800mm, for external and internal facing operations and undercuts, internal or external conical and cylindrical boring and milling operations as well as complex profile machining via interpolation with the other machine axes.

Components were entirely processed through a dual cycle with intermediate tests carried on a Zeiss 3D coordinate measuring machine to check for the presence of any distortions, given the high malleability of the material. The dimensional test was carried out on ND (PT) control by qualified staff of the Galbiati company.

The final test, which took place in the customers’ presence, was carried out using Zeiss 3D measuring machine to guarantee the quality and high precision, to the customer’s total satisfaction.
