Galbiati Group performed machining operations on two large size girth gears mainly intended for metallurgy industry applications.

The girth gears consist of two congruent half-rings and of forged, turned and joined components to facilitate packing and shipment operations.

Firstly, the machining cycle included a turning operation followed by gear cutting and drilling.

Fast drive gears for roughing reduction R4 roller strips.

Drive gears: diameter  3900 mm gear wheel  – module 30 – 119 teeth – 770/770 mm facewidth, through hardened  high strength alloy steel (Hardness HB 280).

Bihelicoidal pinion: diameter 1150 mm, module 30 – 35 teeth –770/770 mm facewidth , through hardened  high strength alloy steel (Hardness HB 310).

We have partnerships with leading companies that manufacture and build systems for Defense Departments (Parabolic antennas and radio telescopes), in particular where high quality and precision is required, narrow dimensional tolerances and the use of high-strength materials.

Galbiati Group has built gear toothed segments for handling the elevation of 24m parabolic antennas for satellite communications for a South Korean customer.

The gear toothed segments are generally positioned in series along the supporting structure of the radio telescope, in order to create toothed circumferences with diameters greater than 30 meters and, therefore, suitable for handling elevations of radio telescopes with diameters greater than even 60 meters.

Using CNC controlled 5-axis machine tools (CNC milling and boring machines), Galbiati Group is also able to obtain toothed segments with a quality of toothing surpassing ISO-DIN 7 standards for each single toothed segment, which is the quality normally obtainable with specific tool machines for creating precision toothing (Gearing and grinding).

Construction of an 8 m diameter gear to drive the rotary table.

Galbiati Group performed machining operations on a large scale spur gear, which was built in a steel structure at 42CrMo4 TF and mainly designed for machine tool applications.

The spur gear consists of two congruent half-rings and of forged, turned and joined components to perform machining operations.

Firstly, the execution cycle included a turning operation followed by gear cutting and drilling.

At the end of the processing cycle, locating keys were applied to the spur gear.
