Pre-assembly – Mill stand assembly area equipped with overhead travelling 160 ton, 14 m hook crane. Precise, detailed management of all contracted and outsourced items and accessories (more than 700 items).

Piping –Most grease lubrication piping is manufactured with stainless steel pipes, diameters ranging from less than 10 mm to more than 5 inches, high pressure welded and provided with relevant fittings. Pipe lines are fastened to housings in full accordance with customer’s detailed drawings.

Inspection – After erection, housing alignment and Laser Tracker point system geometric controls are performed and recorded. Pre-assembly of all of the accessories, piping and wiring, as well as final painting is facilitated by the use of temporary walkways until the final work platforms are assembled.

Machining of each housing is performed on a 5-axes, latest generation CNC machine tool. Final geometry is checked by a CAM2 Laser Tracker Xi system to ensure that all working and backup surfaces are within the requested dimensional tolerances, flatness, parallelism, and squareness.

Rough machining can be performed up to more than 12 m width , above than 4.5 m height and maximum weight exceeding 120 ton on the machine tool rotating table. Depending on the rough steel cast geometry, more than 10 % of original weight can be removed during machining.

The official announcement for the procurement of these works was awarded in July/August 2011 to GALBIATI GROUP, which has taken charge of the entire operation, in collaboration with specialized technicians working at the site of Noto coordinated by A. POINT of Rome; mobile precision measuring instruments are used, and all the production capacities at the workshops in Oggiono (LC) are used together with the super modern control equipment that the company has (dimensional control desk ZEISS 3500 X 6000 X 2500 at controlled temperature, computerized LASER TRACKER). 300 days from the signing of the contract, to carry out the whole operation, were granted to INAF by GALBIATI GROUP.

In the category “Global Competitiveness” Galbiati Group Srl was nominated “Supplier Star” for the demonstrated ability in working with Siemens VAI MT, for the design and construction of power transmission parts for rolling mills and casting plants; Auer also highlighted as Galbiati Group Srl well-established a good cooperation with Siemens VAI MT “ providing operational flexibility and high quality, all combined with speed and accuracy in delivery, key features that make Galbiati as the best provider for Siemens Vai of components for metallurgic plants. ”
The Galbiati case is still school: following the event of the last July 8th 2011 2011 it was now the venue for the 21 Assiot affiliates whose Galbiati case history was presented, in cooperation with Staufen, on Friday October 28th 2011. Optimization of production and lean production were the issues covered during the event, both on a theoretical and academic point of view thanks to the great presentation of Dott. Giancarlo Oriani, managing director of Staufen Italia, and on a practical one, through the visit to the facility by all Assiot affiliates (mechanical workshop and assembly department).

One of the strategies, which led to excellent results in terms of production optimization and searching for new prospects is the one Galbiati Group introduced in collaboration with RDI, Staufen and Ecipa Lombardia, in a conference which saw the participation of Sebastiano Barisoni. (Il Sole 24 Ore) as moderator and Professor Alberto Portioli from the Milan Institute of Technology, explained the principles of lean production and innovative communication to the public.
Galbiati Group was rewarded from Hatebur, productive leader of mechanical horizontal printers, like best supplier 2010. We receive this important recognition with large pleasure and satisfaction.
“We were glad to present this special award to Galbiati Group S.R.L. in recognition for their merits in mechanical processing.”
Thanks, there is not better manner “to crown” the first work decade together, and get ready to confront the next one.
